Doveridge Primary School is focussing on STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) and is building and reinforcing links with STEM ambassadors locally.
Building strong cross-curricular links which include Mathematics, Design and Technology and Science is key, as well as expanding our designing, making and evaluating skills.
We were lucky enough to take part in the Primary Engineering Programme in partnership with GivEnergy, which helped Doveridge to create lots of engineers in the making!
One of the projects was for Key Stage 1 to construct moving Tipper Trucks with wheels, axles and a lifting mechanism. Key Stage 2 were tasked with constructing Lighthouses, and as part of expanding their understanding and skills in the area of Technology, we invited an engineer into school to develop the pupils’ knowledge about MicroBits and electrical circuits, so that they could be incorporated into the construction of the lighthouses.
We showcased our designs at the GivEnergy celebration event, where we had the opportunity to race our creations against other schools in our area who also took part in the project.
STEM Club runs weekly in groups of 12.
