Our Forest School Ethos

At Doveridge Primary we believe that Forest School allows our children the opportunity to develop those essential life skills of independence, confidence, determination, resilience, communication and creativity in a calm and spiritually free environment. Forest School enables our children to learn in a way and at a pace that suits each individual child. The sessions are child centred and are deliberately designed to promote the holistic development of all our children.

Over the years, Forest School has given the shyest of children the confidence, security and freedom to seek challenge; to push themselves to limits they never knew were possible. It has given reluctant outdoor learners the chance to try something they never normally would and begin to understand the joy the outdoors can bring them. It has allowed the ‘creative’ children to flourish, their minds have been widened and their language and communication soared.

Forest school teaches children respect and understanding about the natural world; how to look after our environment and its habitats; how to give back to our environment and how to use the environment safely and respectfully. We like to think that instilling this in our pupils at Doveridge Primary will impact on older and future generations, hopefully protecting and improving the future of our eco-system.

Class 1’s Forest School Experience-

We are very lucky here in Class 1, as Forest School is embedded into our weekly timetable. The children are always so excited for this time of the week!

We always start every Forest School session with our Forest School song.

Forest School has something for everyone; whether it is letting your imagination run wild about our Forest Fairies, showing curiosity and respect for the ever changing natural world, developing skills to use tools and make fire, building friendships and communication skills whilst making dens, drawing and painting what you can see, developing those gross movements and coordination when jumping off cable reels or making your way across a rope course.
