Doveridge Primary School

Class 4 Writing

Class 4 English lessons are based around a class text, that cross-curricular links with the topic focus for the term. Grammar teaching and modelling is integrated into writing opportunities, which allows the children to apply what they have learnt to independent pieces of writing. The children will be taught to write across a range of genres from non-fiction to fiction. They will initially start with a ‘cold task’ where the children will show what they know before starting the writing unit, they will then complete a ‘hot task’ at the end of the writing unit to show what they have learnt and how they have applied what they have learnt. The children are also able to respond to feedback and action any improvements they would like to make which they do in green pen, this is an important part of the writing process, as they develop proof reading skills to edit and produce their very best pieces of writing.
