Class 1: Magic Moments
Here in Class 1 we like to give the children many ‘Magic Moments’ to create excitement and engagement and to enhance and celebrate learning.
Throughout the term, the children work their way up the Class ladder when they demonstrate good behaviour. At the top of the ladder is a reward pot! At the start of each half term, as a class the children decide what reward they would like to have at the end of the half term to celebrate their fantastic behaviour. We have had some excellent days including, Halloween Parties, Ice Cream days, Beach days, Class baking days, and bring a toy to school. We find that allowing children to choose their own reward increases motivation, as the reward becomes something personally meaningful and desirable to them. When the children choose their own treat, they are more invested in achieving the goal or behaviour required to earn it. It also teaches decision-making and delayed gratification, as they must think ahead and work towards something they value.
Incubating Chicken eggs
During the summer Term, we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to get to incubate some more eggs. This time they were chicks! The children waited in anticipation until we arrived in school one day to find that they had finally begun hatching- how exciting! We fed, watered and nurtured them until they were too big to keep in our Classroom any longer. Mrs Carnwell decided that she would take them home with her to live alongside The Little Red Hen.
The Gruffalo
Whilst strolling through our Forest the children stumbled across an owl, a fox, a mouse and we found the story of The Gruffalo. The children were so excited and they decided to build a trap during one of our Forest School sessions to try and catch her. They worked together, showing great team work, excellent resilience and fantastic problem solving skills and finally created an incredible trap. The children waited in anticipation until eventually we got a visit from The Gruffalo!! It was truly amazing!
September to present - Secret Reader
Every Friday we have a Secret Reader (parents/ grandparents/headteacher) that come into the class to share their favourite children’s stories. We are always so excited to discover who it will be!
