Class 1: Indoor Learning Environment
Here at Doveridge Primary, we believe that the learning environment can be the ‘second teacher’ when used effectively.
Our light, bright, welcoming indoor environment, encourages independence, celebrates successes, promotes learning opportunities and engages the children through all areas of learning.
Our combination of continuous provision and enhanced provision, alongside our class challenges, guided activities and our ‘play to learn’ self-chosen activities, enable a rich learning environment for all.
Both Nursery and Reception children get the opportunity to explore the continuous provision together.
We strongly believe there are many benefits of this:-
- Peer Learning: Reception children, being slightly older, can help nursery children by modelling behaviour, language, and social skills, which boosts our nursery children’s development.
- Confidence Building: Nursery children gain confidence from interacting with older peers, whilst our Reception children develop leadership and nurturing skills by helping the younger ones.
- Social Skills: Mixed-age groups encourage children to develop better social interaction, cooperation, and empathy as they learn to work and play with children at different developmental stages.
- Smooth Transition: Nursery children who interact with Reception-aged children become more familiar with the routines and expectations of the next stage, easing the transition from Nursery to Reception.
- Rich Play Environment: We believe that mixed-age settings can create a more dynamic and varied play environment, as our Reception children introduce more complex games and ideas, which helps all children explore new forms of play.
