Doveridge Primary School

Class 1: Forest School

We are very lucky here in Class 1 as Forest School is embedded into our weekly timetable. Mrs Carnwell and Mrs Clarke are both Level 3 Qualified Forest School Teachers. The children (and staff!) are always so excited for this time of the week! Forest School sessions are on a Monday and Friday afternoon.

We believe that Forest Schools has something for everyone; whether it is letting your imagination run wild about our Forest Fairies, showing curiosity and respect for the ever-changing natural world, developing skills to use tools and make fires, building friendships and communication skills whilst making dens, drawing and painting what you can see, developing those gross movements and coordination when jumping off cable reels or making your way across a rope course.

What shall my child wear?

Dressing appropriately in forest schools is essential for safety, comfort, and maximising learning experiences. Proper clothing, like waterproofs and sturdy boots, protects children from the elements, keeping them warm, dry, and safe during outdoor activities. This allows them to fully engage with nature without discomfort or the risk of illness. Suitable clothing, including layers for varying weather and hats or gloves, ensures children can participate freely in activities.

We have a selection of puddle suits and wellies for your children if you are struggling or forget to bring them to school. We encourage parents to leave their children’s Forest School clothing and wellies in school for ease and for those impromptu walks in the Forest. Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled.
